SITSIRITSIT
Excerpts from my original, bilingual, picture book adaptation of the Philippine folksong, Sitsiritsit.
Instead of one continuous narrative, the text is broken up by verse to showcase four different vignettes of strange situations, rife with Filipino wit and humor.
This song is comparable to a Mother Goose nursery rhyme in both form and content. Like its Western contemporaries, Sitsiritsit is a short series of silly, nonsensical rhymes often sung by children at play. This adaptation presents the text in its original Tagalog, as well as an English translation, properly syllabicated so it can be sung in the original tune.
